Information Technology (IT) Specialist

Puritan Medical Products is hiring an Information Technology (IT) Specialist to join their team saving the world, one swab at a time, at their new manufacturing facility in Pittsfield, Maine. Join Puritan in the quest to get testing supplies to the professionals!

The Information Technology Specialist reports to the Director of Information Technology and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and evolving nature of the local area network (LAN), hardware, software, peripherals, and remote locations. IT Specialists perform routine daily IT processes and operations along with other tasks as assigned. The IT Specialist may be responsible for independent projects under the direction of the Director of IT.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily backup operations and day-end processing
  • Assisting with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
  • Processing of incoming Purchase Orders (850s) and outbound Functional Acknowledgements (997s), Purchase Order Acknowledgements (855s), Invoices (810s) and ASNs (856s)
  • Maintaining customer/item cross-references supporting EDI customers and documents
  • Assisting with the EDI settings of new EDI customer/branch setups; performing daily EDI backups
  • Assisting with processing and reporting related to month, quarter, and year end tasks
  • Generating and formatting reports and fulfilling report requests
  • Assisting in the routine maintenance of personal computers, laptops, printers, and other peripherals
  • Updating Windows 10 machines monthly and running monitoring software and anti-virus scans monthly and/or as needed
  • Assisting with the maintenance/expansion of the local area network (LAN) and supporting documentation
  • Fielding Help Desk calls, interfacing with end users for support, logging IT issues in our Help Desk tracking software and continuing to work on open issues until they are resolved and can be closed in the Help Desk software
  • Managing inventory of and ordering IT-related supplies (e.g. ink, toner, ribbons)
  • Creating and maintaining necessary IT documentation for the IT department and IT provided end user instructions
  • Documenting and maintaining end user PC software and hardware and peripheral inventory
  • Providing basic office support functions when needed (photocopy, shred, fax, file, update open project information.)
  • Assisting remote office and remote sales staff with issues related to remote work, VPN use, hardware, and software
  • Maintaining and expanding the current warranty/maintenance information and altering the director of IT in advance of pending warranty expiration
  • Providing phone system support (analog and IP), administering the teleworker and the voicemail systems and generating supporting documentation
  • Interfacing with Verizon Wireless (or current cell service provider) in procuring cell phones and maintaining/upgrading cell phones, iPads, and MiFi devices
  • Contacting respective support lines for assistance with IT issues that need to be escalated form the company IT Help Desk
  • Monitoring Hosted Exchange email system – managing accounts, adding/deleting email accounts, creating alias accounts, managing storage, assisting with devise limits, and helping with cell phone email account setups
  • Maintaining the Puritan scheduling boards and the remote access to these devices
  • Assisting with the Information Security policy, annual compliance training and support software
  • Providing support in the development of and training related to new software pending implementation
  • Supporting label printer hardware, software, and network
  • Aiding with Puritan calibration software, report, and labeling
  • Helping with Hardwood quality system database
  • Helping with questions or operations issues related to the Puritan Production Analysis database
  • Supporting daily operations of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and interfacing support systems
  • Interfacing with vendors providing hosted services
  • Assisting with software/hardware/vendor providing building entry access software/hardware

Key skills required:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Programming or related field required OR High School Diploma with equivalent experience required
  • 2-3 years of Information Technology experience required
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate and address projects and problems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Collaborates with users, vendors, technicians, and managers to understand and assess computing and system needs and requirements
  • Experience as a Help Desk agent
  • Excellent documentation, writing, and communication skills
  • Minimum of two (2) years computer experience
  • Willingness to train on new IT topics and product progressions
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks concurrently
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to direct other employees to facilitate solving a problem or assisting in the implementation of new software, features, etc. In addition, the IT Specialist may be required to oversee outside vendors (helpers) while they are onsite.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds (computer equipment and office products)
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to access computer equipment in all buildings both onsite and offsite for purposes of install, repair, and replacement
  • Ability to explain technical problems and offer solutions to those without technological training
  • Working outside the normal scope of the business day when situations or workloads require immediate attention
  • Travel between Puritan locations will be required
  • Weekend and Holiday work will occur
