Homegrown jobs: Manufacturing remains a significant employer in Piscataquis County

August 19, 2019, |GUILFORD, ME (U.S.) - Puritan Medical Products is proud to be part of the cover story of the August 19 edition of Mainebiz, the go-to source for in-depth reporting on the Maine economy.

Puritan, and our sister company, Hardwood Products, are the center of a story about manufacturing in Piscataquis County, an area near Bangor that is larger than Connecticut and Rhode Island combined and a population of 16,773.

The piece looks at the companies – along with JSI Store Fixtures of Milo – and how investment in the businesses and their growth are affecting employment in the region.

Puritan and Hardwood combined are the county’s leading employer, with 550 people.

One official with the county economic development council pointed out the significance of our companies as, “family-owned and committed to the area, despite challenges that range from finding workers to putting salespeople on the road to meet with far-away customers.”
